This work has recently been selected as a Finalist in the Black Swan Heritage Prize. For this painting, I focused on Kings Park and Botanic Garden and the role it plays as a showcase and container of the rare and endemic plants from this biodiverse corner of the world. The exhibition runs from 9th- 19th October and more details about the prize are available here.
This work will be exhibited at the 2014 Cossack Art Awards from this coming weekend. After moving back to Western Australia I have become a little obsessed with the flora endemic to the South-west and particularly the visual contrast of spiky leaves with incredibly intricate flowers. In the process of creating the work I’ve also been looking into conservation issues and the broader significance of the natural flora in our culture. The exhibition runs from 20th July – 10th August and more details about the exhibition and public programs are available here.
